How to Prevent Pool Algae

Summer is the perfect time for swimming, splashing, and fun in the pool, but it’s also a prime time for algae to grow. Algae can be an unsightly nuisance, but it can also cause your pool to become cloudy and unsanitary. Fortunately, there are a few simple steps you can take to help prevent pool algae.

1. Maintain a proper chemical balance.

Algae thrives in unbalanced water, so it’s important to test your pool’s pH, alkalinity, and chlorine levels regularly and adjust accordingly.

2. Clean your pool regularly.

Regular skimming, vacuuming, and brushing can help prevent algae by removing any debris that may be providing a surface for algae to grow on.

3. Run your pool filter.

Your pool filter should run for at least 8 hours each day. Make sure to clean or replace the filter regularly for optimal performance.

4. Use an algaecide.

Algaecides are specially formulated chemicals that help prevent and control algae growth. Make sure to read the manufacturer’s instructions carefully before using.

5. Keep your pool covered.

Installing a pool cover is a great way to reduce the amount of sunlight that reaches the pool, which can help prevent algae growth.

By following these simple steps, you can help keep your pool free of algae and enjoy a summer full of fun in the sun.
